What is this?
This is an exercise for the shoulders and sides.
Benefits
Sideways Leg Lift:
- Tones the shoulder muscles.
- Tones the laterals.
Equipment required
This exercise requires:
- The Wii Balance Board
MET
Sideways Leg Lift has a MET of 2.5, meaning that it is a light intensity activity.
Levels and time
There are two levels of Sideways Leg Lift, each requiring a different number of repetitions and each taking a different amount of time:
- 10 times per leg: takes 1 minute.
- 20 times per leg: takes 2 minutes.
How to do it
- Stand on the Wii Balance Board on your right leg, with your left leg straight, but not touching the board.
- Your right arm should be at your side.
- Put your left hand on your left hip.
- At the same time, lift your left leg and right arm.
- Concentrate on stabilising yourself so that the red dot stays in the yellow zone.
- Keep lifting your left leg and right arm for as many repetitions as the level requires.
- Strive to keep the red dot in the yellow zone.
- Switch to your other leg and repeat.
Scoring
You are awarded points for how well you kept the red dot in the yellow zone, for both the left and the right legs.
Problems
- If you are having problems keeping your balance, then hold on to a chair.
- Keeping your back straight and your shoulders pulled back will make it easier to keep yourself stable.
