Object of the game
Your Mii has put on a penguin costume and has taken to standing on a little iceberg that tips from side to side. He is now hungry, and, as he is acting as if he is a penguin, you must help him catch as many fish as possible.
Equipment required
This game requires use of:
- The Wii Balance Board
MET
Penguin Slide has a MET of 2, meaning that it is a light intensity activity.
Time
This game takes two minutes. This time limit is invariable, that is, even if you are failing to catch fish, even if you fall into the water, the game continues until the two minutes is up.
Levels
There is only one level of Penguin Slide.
How to play the game
- Shift your weight right and left on the Wii Balance Board to tip one side or the other of the iceberg to help the penguin Mii slide to catch fish, and thus gain points. The fish bounce from one side of the iceberg to the other.
- If, towards the end of the iceberg, you fail to shift your weight back to the other side, your penguin will fall into the water. This isn't the end of the game. He will jump back out of the water, from the same side that he fell into it, onto the iceberg after about a second. You will, however, have lost opportunities for catching fish.
- If you shift your weight suddenly when coming to the end of the iceberg, your penguin will spring up. This is how you catch one type of fish (see Scoring below).
Scoring
The score of the game is calculated by the number of each type of fish the penguin catches.
There are three types of fish: blue, green and red.
Blue fish
- These are worth one point each.
- This is the most common type of fish.
Green fish
- These are worth two points each.
- This type appears less frequently than the blue fish.
- The green fish tend to bounce more than the blue fish, and thus are harder to catch.
Red fish
- These are worth ten points each.
- There are only four of this type of fish in the game.
- When a red fish is about to appear, the game plays a special piece of music and one can see the red fish swimming to and fro around the iceberg. Then, all of a sudden, the red fish will jump up and float above the right or the left side of the iceberg.
- There is no way of telling which side the red fish will pick. It will stay there for a few seconds.
- The only way to catch the red fish is to slide the penguin to the end of the iceberg and suddenly shift your weight so that the penguin springs up. If you miss your chance, the red fish goes away.
- There is a pattern to the appearances of the red fish. The first two appear within the first minute of the game and the last two in the last ten seconds of play, one right after the other.
- Even if you fail to catch one red fish, the others will still appear.
Hints and tips
- When you hear the red fish music and see it swimming, move your penguin to the middle of the piece of iceberg. As you don't know on which side of the iceberg the red fish will appear, by being in the middle, you are ideally placed to slide to whichever end it does appear and spring up to catch the fish. You will forgo some opportunities to catch other types of fish when you do this, but, as the red fish are worth ten points, catching one will more than make up for these lost opportunities.
- Whichever side of the iceberg the third fish appears at, the fourth and last fish will jump up on the opposite side a few seconds later.
