Hello all,
I'm glad to be back. Wednesday morning, I received news that my mother in law had suddenly and unexpectedly passed away, so needless to say, my routine went out the window. She lives about 200 miles away so we packed up quickly and headed out to her (and our) home town. All the family was there by Wed. night. We had a lovely memorial service for her Saturday morning and returned home Sunday afternoon.

Friends and neighbors were very gracious and generous. At least four different people brought us platters full of fried chicken (a Southern staple!), and we had 3 different cakes, and 4 chocolate pies. Also lasagne, roast chicken, chicken spaghetti, a platter full of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiches, deli ham, cookies, chips and dip, cheeses and summer sausage. Thankfully, someone brought a big green salad.

I tried very hard to stick to my low carb diet, eating salad and the few vegetables that were available and the roast chicken. I tried to avoid the sweets. Boy, talk about a situation to test my mettle!! We didn't have much time to exercise but at least fit in an afternoon walk each day -- a welcome break for body and mind. We ate out 3 or 4 times, but I only went off the deep end once, pigging out on good old Tex-Mex Mexican food (enchiladas and tacos). I ordered kids meals when we ate out while driving there and back.

I was actually in the middle of Island Cycling when I got the phone call Wednesday morning. I had just gotten off work after a 12 hour night shift and was planning to exercise for 30 or 40 minutes before getting ready for bed. I haven't been on Wii since. I'm scared to weigh myself, but will do so in the morning when I wake up. I hope I haven't gained much. I worked so hard to lose just 10 or so pounds, and I don't want to go backwards.

Pam, congrats on your Normal weigh-in!! That's awesome!

Becky,

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother-in-law. Please accept my prayers for you and your family.

Sounds like you were able to hold it together through what has to be the most challenging situation. I'm very proud of you!

After having my first "normal" weigh-in on the Wii, I couldn't stand the suspense. Instead of waiting to Tuesday for my official weekly weigh-in at Weight Watchers, I went yesterday. I'm down 2.2 pounds this week!!! YAY!!!

I'm continuing to do well on the Weight Watchers program. I did not exercise yesterday because of over doing it on Saturday. Wanted to give my hips a rest. I iced and used my TENS unit a couple times instead. I'm going to ease back into it today, and try and do a better job of listening to my body.

This weekend must have had some bad Karma for us all! My daughter and I got into a contest about who could hold plank position the longest (I won!) but then we decided to try doing the one on Wii Fit with the push up to side plank. I'm not sure what I did wrong but something in my neck going to my shoulder certainly didn't like it. Yesterday I could hardly stand to move my neck to the right and today it's better but still sore.

We also took my granddaughter out for dinner Saturday night and I know I ate what I shouldn't have. I'm not really worried because it was one meal and I've learned from experience that one slip not only won't make you gain 10 lbs but it's also good for the soul. You need a little treat once in awhile just to make it worth all the effort to diet. I'm back to work today and back on my usual food routine so all will be right with the world again now.

Sorry to hear of your loss Becky. We all have to hang in there when these things happen, and they will. Hope you get back to normal soon.

Thanks, y'all! I was pleased to find that I only gained 2.4 pounds, which is within the range of normal fluctuations I've been seeing even when I am religiously sticking to my diet and exercise. So maybe by the end of the week I'll see a bit of loss. I got in 50 minutes of exercise this morning, with a little yoga, about half an hour of cycling, some flying and obstacle course. I have to work tonight and will try to get back into my routine with a bit of exercise when I get off work in the morning. I've already packed my healthy lunch and snacks for work tonight. I find that planning and packing lunch ahead of time helps me a lot. If I wait til it is time for work, I run out of time and end up eating junk.

Pam, congrats on your continued weight loss! You are doing great. Mokey, that plank thing is a killer. I can't do the push up to side plank. I can hold the plank position for the duration of the exercise (30 seconds I think?) but just barely. Congrats on beating your daughter! :)

Ow..... This morning I tried a "tummy tone" dance workout video. I got about 10 minutes into it before realizing I was out of my depth. I shut it off and took Ari for a brisk 30 minute walk instead. But I guess 10 minutes of that video was enough. My abs are so sore!!!

Yesterday I did a 45 minute yoga video. That felt GREAT! My hips really like the yoga. Between the yoga, stretching, icing and using my TENS I seem to have beat the damage I did to my hip on Saturday. No pain today.

I had my last bowlful of Tomato Veggie soup today. (recipe elsewhere on this forum). It was so good I'm going to make up another pot of it tonight.

My jeans are so loose I can take them off without unzipping them! Yay! Time for a shopping trip through my old "too small" jeans. :D

I'm probably weird but I love that feeling of sore muscles. It lets me know that I worked something that needed to get moving. The best is when you keep doing that exercise until it doesn't hurt anymore!

Becky; so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to resist the comfort food in times of crisis, then there's the whole thing about not offending people who cook for you. The day my father died a woman from the fire department where my dad, 2 brothers and brother in law worked showed up with a COMPLETE turkey dinner with ALL the fixings and two pies, and this was June. 2.5 gain is within normal fluctuation, keep up the good work but do take care of yourself during this difficult time.

Pam glad to hear you are on the road to healing. Take it easy, slow steady progress is better than pushing yourself too soon and ending up worse than you were. I have a friend, who is obese and suffers from diabetes and heart problems, she is in her low thirties and ends up in the hospital often because she can't say no, and doesn't listen to us when we tell her she is pushing too hard. Of course the one thing she doesn't do is exercise at all. I've tried, along with several WiiFit fanatics, to get her to try the Wii as we find it a good, safe segway into exercise when we were sedentary for two or more years. Anyone have any magic words I can share with her. "I don't want to attend your funeral" doesn't seem to work.

Becky please accept my condolences for your loss too. We never know what is round the corner in life, when things like this happen, diet plans etc tend to go out of the window. It's unavoidable.
Pam, you sound like things are going really well, that feeling of jeans feeling looser is great isn't it ? I know what Mokey means about the muscles, obviously not really painful, but a feeling of the muscles being used, makes me feel I'm really doing something right.

My husband has taken a few days off work so I've not done any Wii'fitting except a little cycle-ride on Saturday with the kids. Will try to do an hour today to make up. I've also been eating a lot of the wrong stuff, as we've been out and about and have eaten out. I did get back on track yesterday though and have gone back to my old GI points diet, very similar probably to WW.
It's worked for me before, it's easy and doesn't leave me hungry.

Here's some info if anyone's interested..

I did quite a lot of walking at the weekend so hopefully my first weigh in for a while will not be too bad ! :?
