SPOILER ALERT? Death Plummet Cheats

OK, this is a follow-on from AjaTao42's post on cheats.

On: wii-fit-plus-island-cycling-cliff-jumping-spoiler-alert-t568-10.html

I call this type of cheat a "Death Plummet Cheat". "Death" for obvious reasons, "Cheat" because everyone knows these are cheating, and "Plummet" for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who saw Gonzo the Great in the parachuting scene behind the credits of The Muppet Movie.

There is a way to predict where they can be found, which is derived from how they appear to me to work. This way of predicting their location also indicates why some of them are easy to execute, and some are not.

Basically, it appears that you can find them on any cliff where there is something non-cyclable far below, nearer to the bottom than the top, although the definition of "nearer" is not 100% clear. Call this thing the "target". If from the top you can plummet so that you free-fall not to the cyclable zone below, but to the target, and you then fall from there to the cyclable zone, you respawn below rather than above.

So, for the four basic known Death Plummet Cheats that AjaTao42 posted:
* The Lake Trail Cheat - this has an easy target that you apparently cannot miss, right next to the Black Road, and the arrival direction is almost perfect.
* The Upper Cliff Cheat - this has a fairly straightforward target on the cliff below, and the only real disadvantage is that the respawn point, while nicely placed on the High Ledge, is pointing in the wrong direction.
* The East Upland Green Cheat - this is difficult to do, as AjaTao42 found, because the target is very small and its location is not clear. The trick appears to be to skim the cliff rather than go straight out over it. It is also less useful, because you respawn inside the tunnel pointing the wrong way.
* The South Upland Green Cheat - this is difficult to do, because although the location of the target is clear, the target is small and awkwardly shaped, so that a great deal of precision is required when riding off the upper zone. The target is the base of the outer leg of the Small Stone Arch over the path below, on the side facing away from the path.

So how many others have I found so far? Just one. There is a way to leave the High Ledge, down the Lower Cliff:
* The Lower Cliff Cheat - this is similar to the Upper Cliff Cheat, but leaves you in a more useful direction, pointing sort of vaguely towards the Big Bridge. You go over the edge just at the top of the fence, but the target appears to be smaller than the Upper Cliff Cheat's target.

It may be possible to leave the High Ledge over near where the balloon is, reducing distance and hence time taken, but my brief experiments this morning were not sufficient to find the jumping-off point.

My overall conclusion is that there are probably more of these cheats scattered around the island, and finding them will require the sort of geeky monomania that we appear to be good at. My next attempt will be to find a way off of Dog Rock (the overlook that dogs jump from in the Island Tour jogging route (the long one all the way round the island on the Black Road).

And watch out for one thing: if you find a way to Death Plummet into the Big Oval Hole aka the Inlet, you'll have to find a way out, otherwise you'll be stuck down there forever. Riding back and forth on the little beach down there isn't going to be the most interesting way to spend the rest of your Free Ride time.

Perhaps best to do that one on a scratch Mii in case there isn't a way back.

Not sure what you mean by non cyclable. If I jump of WuHu Mtn I reincarnate to a road below going toward the ruins (cyclable) thopught the cliff ramp ends and isn't. On that thought If I jump off Dog Leap heading toward lighthouse I land on the grass which is cyclable? I was going to go around in spare time and look for fence endings today and see if there is any relationship there. Unfortunately it takes along time to get back up usually, Iguess htat's where the exercise kicks in :D

Non-cyclable is stuff you aren't allowed to cycle on, either because it is too steep, or too wet, or because it is hidden behind non-cyclable stuff (e.g. the green above the Grand Tunnel, which would be cyclable-on if you could get there). Some non-cyclable drops may be jumped off of safely, such as the wall above the town, the side of the Low Ledge, and the corner of the Upland Green by the Big Stone Arch on the Black Road. Some stuff is cyclable, but only one way, like the end of Hump Rock (Lake Rock) furthest from the castle. You can cycle up the other end, coming from the castle, and then down the end nearest the tunnel, but the other direction is not possible.

Even with this info some are not easy to find. I was playing with the latest jump by the fence near dry lake and missed as often as I got it. Seems I really need to be close to the fence and ride the top just a bit to survive below. If you were not persistant you would never find it. I find each time around my route changes a little bit devendong on conditions, pets, missed turns etc. I modify a bit to try and make up for mistakes. Rested up now so lets see how many kms we can do :P

Another one, although it's horizontal rather than vertical. Go to the balloon by the temple/ruins end of the Big Oval Hole / Inlet, and instead of turning around after you get the balloon, simply ride over the edge into the hole. You will appear back on the Black Road, saving the time and distance required to turn around and ride back to the road.

I have try it some time ago, but I reappear on the ruins. Maybe I have to jump a little more distant to the wall.

I turned left and went toward Dog leap. When I went straight it went toward ruins. Not sure if an advantge or not because I lost momentum. Have to try some more.

You guys are maniacs! ;) ;) ;) But I keep coming back for more. You guys dive and crash, and when it is all worked out I will take advantage of it. Glad to know of the cheat on the way to the ruins. That should save me 20 seconds or so as I fly along trying to catch up.

But remember we are using them also. I plan to break the 18 minute barrier soon. Should be able to get to about 17:50 I I can get a perfect run. That "bad kittie" keeps giving me problems :D
